Published On The Huffington Post: How Toxic is Your Nail Polish Really?

This post is pure, shameless self-promotion. I hope you don’t mind. I’m just super excited.

One of my articles for, an organic living online publication I regularly contribute to, was recently published on the Huffington Post. And I’m just as ecstatic as the last time.

The article, “How Toxic is Your Nail Polish Really?” explores the harmful ingredients contained in conventional nail polishes. It also discusses the destruction nail polishes can pose to the environment when tossed in the trash and offers eco-friendly nail polish options.

While researching for the article, I uncovered some pretty scary facts about those little bottles of paint. Before 2006 and 2007 most nail polishes contained formaldehyde (yep, that same nasty chemical used in science labs and morgues,) DBP, a known reproductive and developmental toxin, and toluene, a possible reproductive and developmental toxin that can also cause headaches, dizziness and fatigue.

While many nail polish producers started to phase out these chemicals, they can still be found in nail polishes, as can other toxic ingredients.

Eeesh. Makes you not so sure about those flashy nails, huh? If you want to learn more, feel free to check out the article. And as always, thanks for reading!
