Magazine writing is the reason I decided to go into journalism.
There’s something about magazines that’s like no other medium. The way the right words mixed with the right visuals can resonate with a reader. How striking a story can be. It’s my favorite brand of storytelling.
From six-page spreads to short department stories, here’s a look at my magazine writing work.
Elements magazine | The business magazine for independent pharmacy
Elements magazine is a unique publication in that it’s a business magazine for independent pharmacies, but it has the look and feel of a consumer magazine.
As the editor of Elements magazine, I maintain an editorial calendar, brainstorm story ideas, maintain the magazine’s voice and mission, and write and edit all content published in the magazine. I’ve single-handedly written an entire issue of the magazine when we were short-staffed, came up with new content ideas on the fly when interviews fell through and consistently increased the brand recognition of the magazine.
VintageKC magazine | Home. Fashion. DIY.
I served as a contributing writer for VintageKC magazine, a vintage lifestyle magazine inspired by the booming vintage and antique market in Kansas City, for multiple issues and participated in the magazine’s craft department every issue.
Natural Home and Garden magazine | Living wisely. Living well.
As an editorial intern with Natural Home and Garden magazine, which is now Mother Earth Living magazine, I wrote articles for the print magazine and produced online content such as blog posts, news briefs and product reviews.
The Herb Companion magazine | Grow. Cook. Heal.
As an editorial intern for The Herb Companion magazine, which is now Mother Earth Living magazine, I brainstormed ideas and wrote weekly blog posts for The Herb Companion’s website about cooking, healing and gardening with herbs.
